Heinz and Margarethe Reitbauer opened the inn "Wirtshaus Steirereck" in 1996. It is located on the Pogusch, a mountain pass in Styria in a house which dates from 1616. Outstanding cuisine and a rustic atmosphere have been attracting customers from near and far, and despite the exposed location, is has become the place to go in the region.
This mixture of rustic country-inn and top-level cuisine is quite unique. The inn is composed of several old buildings, which have been relocated from the vicinity. Old and new elements have been combined to form a harmonious entirety. This atmosphere, and of course the outstanding food, makes for a good reason to stop at the Steirereck inn on the Pogusch pass.
It has always been the Reitbauer's principle to use mainly local produce of superior quality in their kitchen and they are successful with this policy. They work with 28 local farmers, who provide them with their produce and specialties on a weekly basis. This supports and promotes the region's identity. The motto reads "LAND & WIRT bitten zu Tisch" (the land and the innkeeper ask to dinner). You will get offered culinary delights that range from the Styrian "Jause" and seasonal dishes to affordable award-winning chef's cuisine.
