AYODHYA is a leading home decorative brand from Thailand, offering unique designs of handicraft made of natural fibers, with water hyacinth as our signature material.
Founded in 1994, our design director, M.L. Pawinee (Sukhasvasti) Santisiri, was then a leader in the stylistic side of a rural development research project, trying to find innovative way to get rid of water hyacinth, which clogged up many of the country's waterways and caused hazardous impact to the local eco-system. She brought with her the passion to turn the natural fiber into contemporary crafts. And since then, AYODHYA has pioneered the use of water hyacinth in the innovative designs for vases, trays, frames, baskets, lamps, rugs and cushions, and introduced the products internationally in 1998.
Most AYODHYA designs are based on natural fibers, sourced from network of grassroots and hill tribes. So, not only has AYODHYA introduced unique handicrafts, but we also provide supplementary income directly to Thai villagers. Especially for the water hyacinth products, each item contributes to the improvement of Thailand's river environment and provides a better living to the Thai community.
AYODHYA products always stand out for our creativity, own pioneering techniques and fine craftmanship. We constantly offer our new modern and stylish collection every year. Our material sources are from wastes, weeds, and local goods, utilising eco-friendly and sustainable components have always been a strong focus in our designs.
Ayodhya became the first to export these eco-conscious design products, while also innovating new products and designs. Ayodhya works include numerous royal interior design projects, hotels, apartments and retail shops worldwide, including our own Ayodhya shops in Bangkok. The company has won many prestigious local and international design awards and is known as a trendsetter in Thai interior design.
Today, our award - winning products can be found all over the world and recognized for our excellent craftmanship and beautiful designs.
Ayodhya constantly works with water hyacinth, our signature material, but manage to keep it “fresh” through innovative construction methods.
However, not all Ayodhya materials are natural. Some are woven from non-toxic recyclable polyethylene given the color and texture combination, allowing to maintain a fresh appeal while giving rise to a combination of natural and modern “techno-craft” materials created with both inherited techniques and new developing technology.
We maintain a handcrafted feel in all its work despite the introduction of new materials. “No matter how far the brand ventures into novel material territory, it adheres to its roots through the application of regular and improvised handicraft techniques.”
