Srisangdao

Srisangdao Rice Mill Co., Ltd. is located in Suvarnabhumi District, Roi Et Province in the northeast of Thailand or 'Isan Region'. It is our good fortune that our district is in the heart of the 'Thung Kula Rong-Hai', which is known as one of the best rice growing areas in the world.

Back in 1994, Srisangdao started when we were appointed by the Department of Internal Trade to be the first private rice and agronomic market in Roi Et Province to purchase rice using a modern method at an affordable and fair price.

Until 2019, we have cooperated with the government to promote the 'Khao Hom Mali Thung Kula Rong-Hai' which is the first Thai product to be guaranteed by The 'Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)' from the EU. This provides us an opportunity not only to be able to work closer with farmers in order to develop rice cultivation to meet international standards, but to also realize the struggle of farmers' income as the price of rice slumps amid rising global competition.

For this reason, we are determined to restore the dignity of the farmers to their well-being by successfully exploring the modern farming method 'Direct Seeding Innovation' that brings scientific and technological knowledge to combine the traditional wisdom of the farmers. After that we established the 'Srisangdao Direct Seeding Village Project' with the goal of providing farmers with a better income and quality of life, while delivering the premium quality rice to people around the world through the brand 'Srisangdao'

About our production methods

The direct seeding innovation is a new body of knowledge. To be successful, it takes a lot of willpower. The rice fields in the Thung Kula Rong-Hai area rely on rainwater to grow. Therefore, the farmer can only farm once a year. If the farmer fails to farm that year, it means the loss of their annual income.

What's even more difficult is changing the old belief that if you want to produce more, you need more seeds. However, the principle of direct seeding innovation is to reduce the number of seeds. To allow the rice to have space to tiller without the rice plants having to compete for water for food and to be able to receive full sun and wind. The result is a 2-fold increase in productivity that allows farmers to reduce costs and increase profits, which in turn gives them more income.

One of our intentions is to also maintain the geographical specialty of breadbaskets like the Thung Kula Rong-Hai. As an old sea area that comes in a basin shape, this land has sandy and saline soil. It’s flooded during the rainy season and dry after the rainy season is over. Because of this, the rice must fight drought by secreting '2-acetyl-1-pyrroline' or 2AP, a natural fragrant substance as a result.

We also care for the environment by encouraging farmers to 'plow the rice stubble' in preparing plots to preserve the nutrients in the soil instead of burning the fields, which destroys the soil and causes PM 2.5 pollution.

The Srisangdao Rice Mill also has a rice milling technique that requires expertise and meticulousness to achieve premium rice by controlling the rotation speed for less broken grains and keeping the most useful parts of the rice grains like 'germ'. We also have temperature control to maintain the original fragrance of our Thai Hom Mali rice, hence every grain of the Srisangdao rice is clear, shiny, neat and beautiful.

All these stories inspired Somchana Kangwanjit, Executive Creative Director of Prompt Design, a Thai design company who came up with the idea to create packaging from recycled rice husks, an agricultural waste material obtained from rice milling as this reflects the value of Khao Hom Mali Thung Kula Rong-Hai, while preserving the environment.

About our featured products

Thailand has a rice cultivation culture that is the wisdom and spirit of our ancestors, so rice is not only for nourishing the whole country but also a part of Thai people's way of life. The Srisangdao rice is grown with Thailand's most famous 'Thai Hom Mali Rice', a rice variety that has won the World's Best Rice Award 7 times.

Our rice is also grown in one of the best rice growing areas in the world, 'Thung Kula Rong-Hai', where this fragrant, soft, unique rice has been registered as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) by the European Union which brings great pride to Thailand.

In addition, the front of the recycled rice husk packaging shows the physical characteristics of the Thai Hom Mali rice, while the background reflects the unique geography of the Thung Kula Rong-Hai. With this attention to design, our packaging has won design awards from many countries around the world.

Our local products are worth collecting and gifting on special occasions. Not only can you experience the authentic taste of Khao Hom Mali Thung Kula Rong-Hai that enhances the taste of Thai food to make it even more impressive, you will also help support farmers to live a good life and maintain a sustainable environment at the end of the day.
